We envisage a shared vision for a sustainable Ocean future that reflects all Australian stakeholders. Our mission is connect Australia's Ocean Stakeholders through knowledge, networking and learning, and where appropriate facilitate or coordinate activity.
Since late 2020, Ocean Decade Australia has been consulting and connecting stakeholders through information and resources, networking, knowledge and learning. This national dialogue has allowed Australia’s ocean stakeholders to discuss what success looks like and how it might be measured for a sustainable ocean future. Australia’s Ocean Stakeholders are diverse and from every sector and industry including fisheries, transport and logistics, philanthropy, energy, recreation, government, research, First Nations, youth, sport, accounting, banking, finance and investment.
To bring about the systemic change required to achieve the ‘ocean we want’ it is broadly acknowledged that there is a need for a step-change in the relationship humans have with the ocean which includes an uplift in ocean knowledge and literacy, that connects up vision, behaviour and action, takes advantage of the opportunities that the ocean has to offer, and that develops a methodology to measure progress.
Our stretch mission is to monitor activities of Australia's Ocean Stakeholders towards achieving ocean health and wealth for generations to come.
