Thank you to the hundreds of participants who attended our first Ocean Decade Australia Stakeholder Briefing at the National Maritime Museum of Australia in Sydney.
The objective of this event was to open the conversation across all ocean stakeholders about what success would look like for Australians after 10 years focused on the ocean.
We want to hear from you how we best continue this conversation. Complete our event feedback survey here.
To stimulate reflection and challenge the minds of all participants, our panellists provided these perspectives on clear actions we can all take now:
We need to move away from opinion based decision making and focus on evidence-based research for decision making
~ Veronica Papacosta, CEO SIA
Know where the seafood on your plate has come from – noting that 70% of seafood is imported
~ Tony Worby, Minderoo Foundation
We all need to understand the impact of our fashion choices – what we wear. We need to all ask the right questions of those making our clothes
~ Amy Low, Fashion Industry – Piping Hot Australia
Remove the politics from the solutions – remove the blockers
~ Blair Palese, Global Climate Editor, Climate and Capital Media
We need to stop doing things in silos – everyone has to be a hero
~ Miranda Taylor, CEO National Energy Resources Australia
